What to do if you only have minor injuries after a car accident

On Behalf of | May 30, 2019 | Uncategorized |

News outlets tend to only focus on major car accidents. Recently near New York, nine people suffered injuries from a multi-car crash that occurred on the Garden State Parkway.

The majority of auto accidents that occur are relatively minor. They may only entail small fender benders where no substantial damage transpired. Many people think they can settle these small matters quickly, but the truth is that you want to follow all the same steps as if you had suffered significant injuries.

Follow the same steps as with any other car crash

When the crash seems minor, you may think you do not have to get insurance companies involved. It can be cumbersome to have to deal with insurance agents for weeks or even months, especially when the crash itself seems so insignificant. However, you want to play it safe. Even if the other driver offers you some money, you are better off going through the proper channels. You do not know if other auto-related expenses will emerge later on. Additionally, the law requires you to contact your insurance agency after a car accident, so you do not want to end up on anyone’s bad side.

See a doctor

Seeing a doctor may seem superfluous. You may feel otherwise fine. There may be no visible wounds on your body, but tissue could have sustained damage under the skin where you cannot see it. You always want to get a check-up, just to be certain you are okay.

Follow all medical advice

Your doctor may prescribe you medication or recommend you see a specialist. You need to follow all guidelines precisely. In the event this case does end up going to court, you want to show you took all medication as recommended. If you fail to follow the doctor’s advice, then you may lose out on compensation. When it comes to car accident claims, it is better to play it safe.
