Social media and distracted drivers

In the digital era, technology has taken communication and social interactions to new heights. Now, people are able to keep in touch like never before, regardless of geographical barriers, language barriers and other obstacles that used to limit or prevent interaction. However, this convenient technology also comes with down sides. For example, drivers may be more likely to find themselves in a collision due to social media and other distractions associated with technology.

There are a number of ways that social media activity can lead to distracted driving and, in some instances, a devastating collision. For example, a person may try to take pictures while they are driving with the intent to upload them to a particular social networking site later on. Or, they may even be live streaming while they are operating their car, which can be very distracting. Even when a driver does not post anything to social media, they may be distracted by following someone else’s feed or browsing through profiles. Moreover, smartphones in general can be distracting and may cause a driver to take his or her eyes off of the road to find music, browse through a website, send or receive texts or use their phone for other purposes.

If you have been hit by a driver who was distracted when the crash occurred, it is imperative for you to have a solid understanding of what your options are. Head to our car collisions section for a look at more related to the dangers of distracted driving.
