Three people are dead and three more are suffering injuries after a horrific crash in Princetown, New York. A Chevy Equinox carrying a family of five was headed east on I-88 when another Chevy, a Malibu, crossed over into their lane and collided with them head-on.

The father, who was driving, and the mother, who was in the front passenger seat, were killed immediately. Their 19-year-old son and two twin girls, aged 12, were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Two of the children are undergoing surgery and are listed in critical condition. All five were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.

The driver of the Malibu was also wearing a seatbelt, but that didn’t stop him from being thrown from the vehicle on impact. He was transported to a hospital but died the next morning.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit, the Uniform Patrol and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation are looking into the car accident and didn’t indicate whether intoxication or distraction played a role in the crash. Earlier that day, he had experienced a medical episode that required a trip to the hospital but he was released.

It’s a tragic accident that leaves behind three children and a other family members, who now mourn their passing and must deal with medical expenses, funeral costs and lost wages.

In a case like this one, an attorney can be an invaluable help. He or she can conduct an investigation into the causes of the crash and may be able to help the family members get compensation.
