Why you should never text and drive

One of the first lessons of driving is to keep your eyes on the road at all times. This is because it is no secret how distracted driving can cause accidents and injuries. If you have been driving for some time now, you might have come across several distracted drivers. Imagine a car in front of you, moving irregularly and even honking doesn't seem to alert the driver. You drive past and notice them texting with the phone in their hand with one hand of the wheel. Sound familiar?

Distracted driving is a broad category. Numerous activities can be seen as being distracted behind the wheel. These might include texting, applying makeup, eating food, tending to a child or pet and surfing the Internet. In most states, if you text and drive you will likely find yourself with a traffic violation.

Texting is an activity that requires our complete attention. When you text, your eyes are on the screen, and your mind is also focusing on the text, not the road. Moreover, if you text and drive, both hands will most certainly not be on the steering wheel. Most people use one hand for typing and reserve the other for steering the car. Texting and driving is a reckless act, and many people are injured in accidents caused by such careless acts. In 2014 alone, 3,179 Americans were killed in car accidents because of distracted driving.

If you or someone you know has suffered injuries in a distracted driving car accident, you might want to seek help from an attorney. If your claim is successful, you might recover compensation for all the damages you have incurred.
